Visitor Information

Murney Tower Museum is open for site visits from 20 May through 4 September 2023.

Hours of Operation:

Monday: 10 AM-5 PM

Tuesday: 10 AM-5 PM

Wednesday: 10 AM-5 PM

Thursday: 10 AM-5 PM

Friday: 10 AM-5 PM

Saturday: 10 AM-5 PM

Sunday: 10 AM-5 PM

Admission: By donation. Recommended donation is $5.

Please note that there are no toilets or running water on site. The closest toilets are in the Richardson Bathhouse or the City Park.

Parking

The Museum doesn’t have a parking lot however there are city parking lots nearby. There is parking at the Waterfront Lot and Richardson Beach Lot. You must buy a ticket to park in these lots Monday to Saturday from 8 am-5 pm. There is a $2 hourly rate and a limit of 3 hours for these lots.

Transportation

 We are a stop on the Kingston Trolley. Bus 3 stops at George Street north/south side of Kings Street and at Maitland Street north/south side of Kings Street. 

Guided Tours / Historical Interpretation

Our trained and enthusiastic staff will be present in the museum to give guided tours and answer all questions about the tower’s history and collections. 

Accessibility 

As a military fortification built in the mid-19th century, the Murney Tower has a small and intimate space and narrow stairs which may not physically accessible to certain groups of people. Please note that the Tower is not wheelchair accessible. 

Museum Shop

We have a small display of items for sale at the front desk which is on display in a small glass case or hanging on the wall behind interpreters.

Activities 

We are offering a broad range of virtual activities including arts and craft workshops, instructional videos, and cooking tutorials. All activities are available for free on the museum’s YouTube Channel.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there a place to go if I am distressed? There is easy access to the outside and you are allowed to exit and re-enter the museum with no extra cost or issue.

  • Where are the toilets? If you need to exit and re-enter we offer that option. 

  • Do I have to pay for admission? Museum admissions are accepted by donation, and any and all donations are greatly appreciated. As a non-profit organization, we operate with the support of donations and adjudicated grants. If you would like to make a contribution to our little museum and support our operations, you can also make a donation by paying what you can either onsite or online by clicking here.

  • Can I visit with my support person? Yes, as per Ontario law support persons are welcome and free of charge. 

  • Can I visit with my support animal? Yes, we are a pet-friendly facility so all pets especially support animals are welcome.

  •  I having vision impairments can I get large font text? Yes, we have designed our displays to meet accessibility standards with large text that is sans serif, and there are no barriers in front of the text allowing you to go as close as you would like. We are always looking for ways to improve the visitor experience and better ways to accommodate visitors with different needs. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
